Publication Launch: Working Hours: Exploring Gender Dimensions of Unpaid Care Work in Sri Lanka
Working Hours: Exploring Gender Dimensions of Unpaid Care Work in Sri Lanka edited by Sepali Kottegoda and Pradeep Peiris was launched on 12th June 2023 at the Movenpick Hotel, Colombo. This publication brings together a selection of research papers presented at the Conference on ‘Equality and Equity in Recognising Unpaid Care Work and Women’s Labour in South Asia’ convened by the Women and Media Collective (WMC) in collaboration with the Social Scientists’ Association (SSA) in October 2022 in Colombo. The conference was conceptualized as a platform to broaden the discourse on unpaid care work in Sri Lanka. The call for papers for the conference brought together presentations and analysis of unpaid care work from researchers and activists from different fora. The papers selected for this volume explore hitherto “hidden” aspects of unpaid care work in Sri Lanka in the fields of overseas migration, public policy, time use surveys, women in cooperative societies, the plantation sector, sexual identities and social media discourse.
